Important safety information has been distributed to all local schools and firework retailers by Jersey's Fire & Rescue Service.
Key messages focus on sparkler safety because of the intense heat they create when lit. In fact, three sparklers burning together generate the same amount of heat as a blowtorch!
Sparklers are not toys, but fireworks on sticks and should be treated with care.
- They should never be given to children aged under five.
- Always supervise children using sparklers making sure they do not wave them near others
- Hold a sparkler only when wearing gloves and at arms length
- Used sparklers can still burn so put them in water or ground when finished with.
