Car Seats

New UK law means all children under the age of 12 years and less than 1.35 meters (that's 4ft 5inches) need to use an appropriate car restraint (car seat or booster seat).

In Europe this is law. They have been introduced for one reason only! This is the safest way for a child to travel in your car.

The UK government estimates this new law will reduce child deaths or injuries by up to 2,000 every year!

The booster seat law is not in Jersey just yet, but it is a really good idea that all children sit in a booster seats until they are taller than 1.35 metres or aged 12 and older. Don't wait until it is too late!

What does a booster seat do?ruler

  • Sitting in a booster seat brings your body up to the right height for the seatbelt to fit you
  • This means the belt will fit properly across your tummy and chest
  • The properly fitted belt will help to keep you in a car if there is a crash

What if your belt does not fit and you are older than 11 and taller than 1.35m?

  • carIf your seatbelt does not fit comfortably and digs into your neck what can you do?
  • Please don't put both arms over the diagonal belt or move the diagonal belt behind your back.  This makes the seat
                                            belt less safe.
If you are too tall or old to use a booster seat by law you can use a gadget that brings the belt away from your neck and helps it fit properly.  Contact us if you want to find out more!
