Younger children tend to put everything into their mouths. Things like leaves and berries, dishwasher tablets, cigarettes and vitamin pills. All of these can be very toxic and mean a stay in hospital.

Look around your home and see if you can spot any poisons. Tell an adult to move these things up high or out of sight.

SO, what would you do?

You are having a look in the shed and find a full bottle of what looks like lemonade. Hummmm….you’re thirsty.
What are you going to do?

Drink it          Don’t drink it

You don’t feel well.  In fact you feel really snotty and have a bad cough.  Mum is in the bath and you want to give her some space. You know where the medicine is.

What are you going to do?

Take it          Don’t take it

Babies put everything into their mouths to see what it is or to soothe sore gums. As children get older it's about trying something new, experimenting or thinking they are tasting something safe.

Prevention is better than cure
